Russ did you have to tweak something to energize the hotend and heated printbed? If so, what exactly, thanks.:D:P
"Tweek" are you talking software or hardware?
Well, that's basically what I am asking. I have not messed with the newer software's or as I do not have a LCD on either of my printers yet. So, if you could enlighten me please, as I have a person with one of my Rostock kits who is asking for help in this way, thanks, Jeff. :D:P
Jeff, I had to turn it on in the software. In the config file. I will upload the config file I'm using tomarow night. The most important part is the feed rate of the filament. Will add this in to my video. Will add other stuff in my video that will be helpfull.

~Russ

Ps. I added a BIG heat sink to the heated bed MOSFET on the ramps bord. I was afraid it would burn out and it gets hot! On warm up. To maintain the heat it's fine. It's just on warm up!
Thanks Russ. On the mosfet heating problem, to fix it, I just used a 30 amp 12 volt relay. Wired the coil to D8 of the ramps board and the contacts to power the heated bed. No more mosfet heat problems.

jeff, i thought about this but did not want to here the CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK. lol but yes a good option.

you can also turn on PWM for that output and liniment the current that way... takes longer to heat but works...

ah grate, thanks for the links to the arms.

i need to just find the swivels... the ones i had bought did not make the angles... so i rendered them.

OK attached is the Marlyn file I'm using.

inverting the end stops. LDC support with encoder wheel. and everything that I'm using that works! lol

im thinking this is not V1 taht im using but something else as i just did a compare and its alot defrent... so see if ti works...

Say Russ did you notice no belts on the rostock in Chris photo. He used fishing string, cool.:cool::D:P
yeah, that's where there all using now. it looks like it works. but i like the belts... :)

Chris, could you post those photos of your build here. it may help others...

here are the pics I have the nozzle and the bed heating now but the bed relay turns on and off really fast over and over until the bed gets to temp --I still can't get the motors to work along with the endstops I replaced hall o--with the mechanical ones ---when you wired up your steppers did you hook the colored wires to each other or did you have to switch the red an blue?????

sweetness!!

no i did not switch the wires! the motors matched the wires that came with the kit. and they matched up just as is. but if it goes the wrong direction switch the motor leads around 180.  if there jumpy and go crazy the current on stepper drivers is to high.

the Hall effect may be wired differently than the mechanical end stop. so you may need to set the "invert = true" back to "invert = false" depending on how its connected.

The relay is clicking as its set up in the software to be PWM so it can limit the current. you should be able to change it somewhere. and also with a bigger heat sink you should be fine connecting it directly. ( you may be OK with a small heat sink.)

keep plating with it!!! it took me like 2 weeks to get everything working correctly! i fought the extruder motor for days!!!!!

let me know!

more piratical stuff i have designed and put to good use...

i also have done some stuff to the printer... i will need to make an update video. replaced the joints... seems better but haven't had time to check very well...

any how this is 2 items. one is a spout for a 5gal bucket of paint... the other... points for some flags... ( my wife is stating to like the 3D printer... lol she is enjoying the Benefits it now... :)   )

both turned out first time... living the accuracy of the prints!! :)

although something happened with the first layers of the "pokers" but i used them anyway and they finished so oh well...

3D printer is a real benefit. Great!

what are overall cost to build a 3D printer i.e. 3 feet operational hight or the cabinet size one you use??

Btw. you can use the tiny pokers for small countrys flags like Monaco :-)

the size i built is about 250mmx250mmx400mm build area. and range from 500-1000USD depending on where you source the parts from...

yeah its amazing... currently prienting a custom din rail power supply holder and fan cover/filter holders... :)

Does this Ardurino board have a step/direction output and can I use a Geckodrive stepper motion control?
Sorry i'm a newbie in this stuff.

  Thank you for an answer!

Hi Alek, I was going to let Russ answer your question here but I guess he's busy so, I would say it could possibly be done that way with Gecko drives but why would you want to use different drives when there is a ramps board that will accept 5 micro stepper drives, endstops, home switches, temperature control, display, sd card reader and so on that plugs directly into the Arduino 2560 mega.:D

Thank you Jeff! :)

Well, I already have The gecko drive G540 and Nema-23 stepper motors.
The machine I'm building looks like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQxa920YGaU
As you can see I don't need temperature control and extruder. It is a clay printer.
The G540 looks like this:
http://www.geckodrive.com/geckodrive-step-motor-drives/g540.html
Seems I need a parallel port breakout board so I can connect.
I'd like to stick with Arduino since I can run it with free software, other possibilities
don't even support a delta stile printer.
I'm kinda lost in here, since I'm only a digatal sculptor.
What should I do? :(

Well, this has been a dream of mine for a long time, using an Arduino for larger stepper motors and gecko drives but I haven't seen anyone do this yet. I've seen a 3d printer running on Mach 3 software. Seeing that you need to connect to a parallel port from a breakout board to control the gecko drives and an Arduino connects to a USB port, don't really know how this would work. What I think I would do at this point is use the free Linux
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Linux_software
or Ubuntu
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter
and machine controller software
http://www.linuxcnc.org/
or EMC
http://sourceforge.net/projects/emc/
There a few software's out there that are free.
Also Google Arduino CNC, see what comes up.
Also Alek, think you might get help from others on this forum if you posted this question in the 3d printer section and not under this thread, I know there are a few here on the forum who program Arduino's and may help.:D:P
