Anyone ever seen a steam engine that looked like this before:



Reminds me of something Russ would build just to keep from going to bed at a decent time.  hehe  :P

I think he hated to build a camshaft or crankshaft..or how do you call it?

So this could compress a V-8 and make it lighter?

Doesn't look like it is particularly efficient (admittedly only by eye) as there are lots of vibrations being absorbed into the rubber mounts.  Having said that, it is quite a novel way to have a reciprocating set of pistons activate circular movement.  Probably quite good torque too if the pistons are energetic enough.  Possibly one direction that the popper could go.  I think TinMan may have something to say about this one given he has a high efficiency design for transferring piston movement into circular motion.

Although his contraption doesn't uses the backforce of the papp engine... so that's 50% loss. ;)

I thought TinMan was putting a reciprocating gizmo on to it to capture both strokes?
