Spark detector for alpha particles

im not the maker of this video, i just found it and think it would be a good idea as a gas processor?
the amount of ionization can be controlled with a mechanical leaver pushing the radioactive material closer to the tungsten wires in a in a vacuum chamber.. like the throttle of a gasoline car.
to keep it simple without need of programming pulses and such.

just me thinking out loud..
what you guys think?

that's a good thought. depending on the application that may very well work.
