Geothermal Battery(s)

After watching an episode of "Renovation Nation" I caught onto the idea of using black olastic tubing buried 'a few feet' or possibly 600mm or so below earth to store heat energy from solar hot water geisers.

I thought this was great, but quickly found a few dillemas when considering using it in practice with reguards to construction of homes.

The first problem is than not everyone has adequate garden space to bury meters of tubing, so thats a bummer. Especially in places like london where youre lucky to get over 3mx3m of garden.

So I though, why not busry it under the foundation when making new homes?
Well, it became apparent how detrimental it would be if the pipes were to burst.

I even though of having homes share the earth beneath the public road, but reasiled the samew problem as before, never mind that council would never accept.

So I though, "Hey, why not make it like an actual battery?"
The idea is to use large drums like oil drums, and coiling the tubing inside before filling with earth or another cheap and appropriate medium.

The theory is that soil is lazy when it comes to changing its temperature, so it (Somehow, appologies but still need to investiugate more) acts like a battery, storing the heat in the pipe until its pumped out again for use.

Will follow up on this, would appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Gonna test it out.
