I just joined, but I will give you a glimpse into what led me here. I have finished my first coil. This is a constant work in progress. I will probably make more supports and wrap this with another layer of torus and make it bigger. All 4 of the coils are not spliced, so there are 4 coils with 8 wires out total. I will post a few pics right now, but I will probably do some youtube videos soon of some of the things I am working on with this coil. It is all done in 20 gauge copper magnet wire, and each coil has 9 wraps. I am driving it with a half ohm stable amplifier. This thing was a pain in the ass for a first coil, and I do not wish it upon my worst enemy. That being said, it does feel good to get it this far, and there are no mistakes in the coiling from any jumping tracks during the winding. I know this because I actually wrapped it 8 or 9 times from making stupid mistakes and catching them too late. It wasn't until I developed a set of rules to QC periodically and stuck to them that it finally got the job to this point. The bird's nests were a nightmare every time I did not follow my system, and it's so demoralizing to start over like groundhog day every time you find a mistake and end up amplifying the problem trying to fix it. It was a real trial by fire, but I look forward to posting more about my experiments. This is a new hobby for me, so any input is appreciated. I am really new at all this Everyone has been a ton of help so far just from the info I have got lurking on the internet reading.
