Is the Machining of the Aluminum an important factor?
Alloy 1100 – Good Machinability (Best if Hard Temper)
Alloy 2011 – Excellent Machinability.
Alloy 2024 – Fair Machinability (Best in Annealed Condition)
Alloy 3003 – Good Machinability.
Alloy 5052 – Fair Machinability (Better if Hard Temper)

WHY IS ALUMINUM AN EFFECTIVE SHIELD?
Aluminum is a prized material that can effectively shield electrical applications. This is in large part to its non-ferrous nature and high conductivity. Also, aluminum’s high strength-to-weight ratio, formability, and adaptability make it very efficient and easy to work with. Flexibility is always a great asset for any manufacturer, allowing for a cheap prototyping process and for changes to be made down the line when necessary.

A huge factor in shielding material is its electrical conductivity.

Every aluminum alloy has its own particular characteristics, so it’s important to know exactly what properties are necessary for your application when selecting a metal for the shield.

A chart like the one found here http://chemical-biological.tpub.com/TM-1-1500-335-23/css/TM-1-1500-335-23_404.htm

helpfully lays out the varying electrical conductivity rangers of various metals.

T.O. 33B-1-14-774.7.1.24 Measurement Of Conductivity.Absolute  values  of  conductivity  are  usually  determined  by  measuring  the  resistivity  of  a  metal  under  very  closelycontrolled laboratory conditions.  Conductivity is calculated as the reciprocal of resistivity as follows:C=1/RWhere:C = Conductivity mhos/inchR = Resistivity ohm.inchConductivity can be converted to % IACS units as described in section 4.2.2.1.1.34.7.1.25 Field Measurement Of Conductivity. For  determination  of  electrical  conductivity  under  production  and  field  conditions,  eddy  current  instrumentation  isemployed.    The  eddy  current  instruments  are  calibrated  against  standards  of  known  conductivity.    When  available, instruments designed specifically for measurement of conductivity are used.  These instruments measure conductivitydirectly in % IACS.
