RWG-OSD OverSized Delta 3d Prenter. Open Source!
« on February 4th, 2016, 03:54 PM »
hello All,

so i have decided to build all Delta 3d printer. this one is built from 80/20 extruded AL. i will make each part and make it work!

because each part is custom it will be hard for everyone to build but i still feel if i don't publish it here as i go it will be harder to do later.

this ended up being much bigger than i had intended. so it will be interesting...

so here is the first video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHsMBszw_F4

i will get in to detail in each video. this one is kinda just the intro.

Awesome

More open source sharing for the people.
That's the only way to go :-)

Quick question on the wire EDM machine: does the cutting generate heat in the material being cut?

The reason I ask is that cutting permalloy or mu metal is difficult to do because heat destroys the magnetic properties of the material. I've been able to do it by cutting slowly with a hack saw or milling bit that cuts slowly and makes chips rather than abrasives which generate heat.

I understand from your video the wire EDM machine cuts under water so it would carry any heat away rapidly but if it heats the material it would alter the magnetic properties before the heat is carried away.

Have you seen anything about cutting permalloy or mu metal with this machine?

it should not generate heat, however from my understanding the Mu metal needs to be treated because its structure changes?

After shaping it can be annealed to obtain the best magnetic properties. But heat generated during the shaping can alter the crystal lattice of the material before annealing which will change how well the annealing works.

ok, yeah this stays very cool so i would say that just the few atoms on the edge would change...

Hi!

its not finished yet so i haven't uploaded any files. everything is in sketchup, do i dont have any dimensional drawings... yet. but everything in sketch up is to scale.

since this is a custom build from the ground up i will post more drawings once further along.

i should post this on reprap wiki!

let me know I'd be happy to send you the current version of what i have in my drawings...

although like i say its not finished... :)

also i haven't updated this page with the rest of the videos,  updated page here:

let me know! thanks!!

i'm not that bad with sketchup ,i will find way to do 2d from 3d thing
i have some copy of copy 3d printer ,,ctc dual extruder,,
but watching your videos ,i just drool with idea in my mind ,""me want one huuh"" :D
thanks again

do you have any of your stuff posted on line?

would love to hear some of your ideas :)

I have plenty of my own and that's why i haven gotten it done yet ! lol

I have attached the current version of the RWG-OSD V1.0!

please do give feed back and changes you make,

you will need Express SCH and PCB to read those files.

hey,

yes you can use those electronics,

that's what i use on my other delta, works fine, make sure you use that LCD, the graphical LCD will slow the system down fast...

I'm using glass, but i plan on making different plates for each type of plastic. like ABS, PLA, are will print on a PEI covered plate. nylon and others will each have there own plate. or that's my goal...

oh and you will be glad you have a heated bed. at least for some stuff like ABS you MUST use a heated bed. the OSD will be fully enclosed too so a hotter internal chamber temp. this is for large ABS Prints.

if your using only PLA you don't need a heated bed.

It's not commonly found on 3D printers, but a perforated print bed works like a charm and with magnetic mounts makes it easy to deal with (if only they would have used magnetic connectors too).  Almost impossible to have a failed print due to adhesion problems.

Just a thought.

I have seen some of theses, what size is the holes, what materiel is it made of, what can you print on it?
also hows it come off, dose the bottom of the print have theses holes and you have to sand it off?

yeah lots of unknowns about to be answered.

oh and i like the magnetic mount idea, i thought about it for the OSD,  but i don't like the magnets being exposed to such heat for such time, alnico magnets should be fine tho...
