:) yes you should in genral get a 3D printer! :)  haha ~Russ
Yes, I have to laugh too.  For grins I got quotes from four companies offering 3D printing services and the cheapest one was still $600 dollars for my two parts.  Crazy right.  I guess these folks are trying to pay for their machines in the first week.

And now they have sales reps calling me about those quotes.  For some reason they can't understand why I would save my money and just buy a 3D printer instead of having them print my parts.

What we need and maybe it's already out there and I just don't know about it is a community printing service.  You know, some sort of website where you post your print jobs and community members can go and bid on them.  With something like this there would be no reason to ever have your 3D printer sitting idle.  It would be kind of a reverse eBay type thing where the seller does the bidding and the customer just waits until he sees a bid he accepts based on quality, reputation, how fast and shipping.  It would be a big boom I would think and would help people like me avoid buying a 3D printer when it would likely sit for a year between each use.  Some folks might even buy a printer just to sign up and make a little cash on the side.

Sellers that are really serious could set something up like you have so their customers could actually see a live stream of their print run.

yes Matt. you know some people do that. but I'm not sure of a "service" that handles that. sounds like a kick starter idea... but build the data platform and get users to sighn up and donate time + pay the m and collect a small % for hosting the service.

any takers on the idea?

sounds like a new thread... we can even go in to it together.

sounds like a good idea for OSE site to host... Hummm...

lets jump on it if there are any takers.
