@natsud1 id love to have a look but i usually have to see the circuit n front of me...its early and without a coffee i cant picture it hehe.... id have to agree with a resistor on the collector of the small tranny to limit the currnet being sunk through it (fairly resilient resistor to be safe).
what i will do sometimes is put a multimeter from the emitter or load to ground for each transistor to see where the power is being sunk into...if that makes sense.

Here is a sneak peek at my entry this year.  I tried to go with more recycled junk, but ended up 3D printing a lot of the parts to bring it all together.  The rotor has a laminated core between two neo-magnets, encased in printed ABS.  The bearing is an old VCR head mounted to a 3D printed base.  Drive coils will be on the ends of the frankencore, and the rest of the space will be for other things.

The coil that is on the core now will output  the waveform attached below with a spin of the rotor by hand.
Hi pirepinto,
Your setup is looking really nice...i do like the parts from the 3D printer...
Print while you sleep...lol...sounds like my kinda thing to... :D

Thanks, I have a bunch of video to edit that I can post too.  I still need to wind coils and really need to clean my work bench lol.

So this year I'm going to open source my pulse motor files before I even finish my build.  I'm totally open to others using and modifying it in the build off against me.   One catch though, I'm only attaching the Sketchup file, and exporting the STL file will be up to you. :)  There is an included turns counter for winding coils with a cordless drill.  It would need one 608 skateboard bearing, a roller microswitch, and some M3 metric hardware, a 8mm or 5/16" threaded rod, nuts and washers.  This would need to be wired to something that counts switch closers, like an Arduino.  I'll be writing a sketch to do just that, and open sourcing it here. :)

Hi firepinto,
First - sorry for writing your name wrong the frist time...i wrote pirepinto...need to start using my reading glasses when i'm typing... :P
I would like to see your setup running so yeh...a few videos or one would be cool... :D
I do like the drawings you posted and also thanks for wanting to post them files for anyone to print them parts... :)
The only printer i have are my to hands...lol
Cheers

Hi firepinto,

I really enjoyed your video series...
Your setup looks real good man, i like it...  :thumbsup2:

Sharky part in 3rd video was funny, he was like...i didn't do nor did i touch anything... :hedidit:
In the last video from 2.20 till the end i can hear Sharky chewing away at some freshly printed parts...

Because of that core you are using there is a posibility that you could experience speed under load at a certain rpm and that would be cool... :cool2:

Hallo everyone,

Here;s my setup for this PMBO 2014 which is basically a Flux Gate Generator with my own design here and there...^^

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Un7-Gsj2c#ws

I'm planning to drive it with a DC motor but as this is a pulsed motor build off i will modify it with a 555 timer to pulsed the DC motor...^^

There's more info about this setup in the comment section below the video...;-)
A update on this one,
DC motor mounted with a 15A PWM and tested...i know the cogging was massive but this is just to much...
Design and build wise i give it a 10......but performance wise a minus 10...
It is consuming anything from 4A to 10A or more just to get a few rpm...lol
Just like i wrote in the comment section under this video...a lot of input power just to light up a very large TINY led lamp...

I also used a massive 12vdc car battery because it's the only thing that can give me 10A needed...definitely a :nono:

In all my years of making this stuff i never ever had anything using more than 3Amps...even the HyperSpeed pulse motor uses around 2.5A only... :-)
I will make a video of it sunday or monday for all to see...

What i'm gonna do is remove all them iron blades and go for smaller ones and more of them...
Got now 2 rows of 6 each at 30mm wide on it now and would like to get 15mm ones and 12 on the inner row and 15 or more on the outer row...
This i think should reduce the cogging effect...
I'll keep you posted... :-)
Got to really go for it now since there's only a week left...

Here is the update,

Title says it all...Looking good & poor performance...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbQvFmzti68#ws

When you've taken the time to make your setup and it perform as bad as mine...remember this...there are always lessons to be learned...

First lesson and most obvious one,
This is apparantly not the way to build/configure it..."duh"...lol
Second one & in my case,
My cored coils generators setup that i've tried has given me far less cogging effect so i'll be testing/modifing them soon again because after this setup they don't looked so bad...lol
After you've learned...just move forward and go for it...!!!...

The input Amps is way to much for me especially in combo with that turtle speed...-.-...lol

The PWM is a 15A max one that can handle 6 to 90vdc and it works great...
This setup will be modify completely different because since i've enter it in the PMBO 2014 i want it to run for at least a couple of minutes... :fear:

I will get back to a Flux Gate Generator style setup once thats over... :excited:

Looking good guys :pirates: <---- I just wanted to use that Emoticon, its too good not too ;)  Here is my update quick update with some O-scope shots..
Pretty much finished the mechanics now its just narrowing down my circuit design and doing some chemistry. Hopefully I didn't slaughter the reads too bad on the shots  ...
Starting to feel the heat of the dead line :excited:... Keep it up an look forward to learning and sharing with you all.
Much love to you all :grouphug:

Input 9v@ 40ma (micro controllers)
8 coils 24 gauge at 100 ft each (2.567ohms)
PWM speed control
2 micro controllers for lcd and motor control (arduino base atmega 328 16mhz 32k)
ECM reading/controls
Rotational 5 degree steps (72 steps per complete rotation)
Control firing power stoke on each piston coil 0deg(TDC) to 180deg(BDC)

Hi All,

I wanted to 3d print this 2014 pulse motor build off, but I still have to calibrate it.

This is my 3D printer:

Hi all.

There are some awesome builds out there.  Great job everyone.

Here are my last 4 updates.  It's getting a bit more complicated.  I added a slayer exciter to power a LED on the rotor.  It looks good but ultimately I want the LED in conjunction with a photo sensor to replace the hall effect sensor as the timing mechanism.  I have a few more ideas to try but we're all running out of time quickly.  Maybe tonight I will get one more feature going.

Thanks for that firepinto.  Yes I thought the same about the degree of arc it triggers on.  Another case of great minds thinking alike?  ;) And yes I thought about the same solution you suggested.  Maybe tonight I'll sort that out.  I have another idea I'm knocking around at the moment which may temporarily trump the light trigger given our time limit.  Adding sound.  Say what??  Yes, lo-fi sound through the drive coil during the ~90% idle time of the coil.  Not much time left so we'll see if I can squeeze it in before deadline.  Still working on a mini-me version too.  No practical application for any of this but fun stuff nonetheless.  :D  Thanks again.
