Did anyone have an idea before a company made it?

Sometimes I see devices that I see for sale and I was like HAAA I though of that years ago and and sometimes my idea was better than the thing they sell in stores.

All ideas are influenced by other ideas usually and I am surprised they do not come out sooner. Some things seem obvious but many do not so it sooner despite they can technologically. Some ideas I thought of are.

I thought about hand cranked outlet to charge devices.
Drinking water out of the air from condensation.
Computer tablets which I hate how most tablets are not as good and still prefer a real laptop/pc.
3d stereoscopic headset like oculus rift which is starting off to be a big thing. I assume it is 3d and not only stereoscopic.
3d game system like Nintendo 3ds. And I knew Nintendo would do bad with its wii U, and they still could have done a lot of things but decided to mess it all up.
Front camera on video chat since your pc has a camera facing you.

And more which I can not remember off the top of my head, and other ideas I am still waiting for which I can not do since it takes money more money and knowing the right people. LOL
As the creator of twitter said it is easy to make a site that does well, and the secret is making it easy for people to use. in other words presentation since so many seem to over complicate it or just are conditioned to being content with what they have in front of them that they do not want to improve. But some companies admit presentation is pointless and want people to take hours to learn to use their site or device etc.

If 1000 people had to waste 10 minutes to learn a thing then that means a total of 10,000 hours is wasted by 1000 people which would have been used for something else, which the company could have wasted an extra 100 hours and as a whole people would have saved time which would have benefited them all. When everyone's time is wasted everyone gets affected since they loose the benefit of the other persons dreams and passions being done sooner for you to enjoy or benefit from. Kind of like how millions of people watch videos which have dead air and so many hours got wasted by the pointless ads most will not get, the bad editing, and the pointless stuff in the video. A little effort goes a long way. So try not to waste peoples time intentionally since in the end it will affect you in a negative way more than you can predict.

Bad enough I went to the science center and it was pure junk which felt like it was making kids stupid. If I was a kid I would be turned off or overwhelmed by the science. Kinds were interacting without focus or understanding. Many things were not explained and it is no wonder how companies are the bearers of innovations than individuals. So many distracted by "fun" when happiness is a state of mind. Happiness should be from an end results from the means to justify the ends and not a quick high to take a drug for the end results to justify the means. The sense of discovery has been eliminated in many ways and gone is the notion that the means always justify the end. It almost feels like if no one cares then why should I, and in the end no one benefits and most wont care since they wont miss what they don't know.

  • Clothes that uses kinetic/solar/wind- energy to charge cellphones etc

  • Shopping carts with separate handbrakes to help turning the carts around in shopping malls
  • Engage an alternator instead of using the brake in your vehicle in order to charge batteries
[/list]

A few really useful ideas I'd like to see IRL.

Welcome Lane64 to the site

Some interesting ideas and I am sure more members had other ideas as well. As it seems the nation of patent is silly ot a degree since many things seems obvious and the idea could have been done sooner or later if the person has te resources. Something is wrong when so many people have ideas yet can not make it as easily.

Some might disagree but an Ubuntu system might help speed up technology to help everyone. Even mad men in history that had a lot of power have invented a lot of things since they had the money and resources to do it. The ideas can always be improved and when one says they have full rights to it and no one else shall make it better it silly. The only thing about patent laws that should have been was to originally help the inventor/investor make his money back and make some money and would rely on their brand name to sell and not be a monopoly on that particular item.

With the many coming up with an idea, does it mean we do not have enough knowledge or new technology to make a over unity device yet? If some it has been done then maybe its ones mentality that needs to change for them to accept it has to be open and free and not hidden. People hiding it only hurt themselves since look at the catastrophe that has caused in the world from death for oil, pollution from burning fuel, or world radiation from Fukashima. The person might make a temporary quick buck but in the long run their family will not be so fond of them. Money can but buy clean land, air, or water. Greed comes back to bite everyone.

Yeah, happened twice at least.

First time was when I was about 15yo (1967) and talking to a local TV tech. I told him they should mount parts on the surface of PCBs to avoid having to drill holes. He said that the parts would fall off, to which I replied that they would have to be redesigned to have end pads rather than wires.

Second time was when I was building a lot of speakers in 1975, and I told a buddy that it would be nice to have a battery powered screwdriver. He asked why I didn't make one, I replied that the battery technology wasn't up to it yet.
