http://filabot.com/

Filabot is a desktop extruding system, capable of grinding various types of plastics, to make spools of plastic filament for 3D printers. Not only is it user friendly, but it is also environmentally friendly. The Filabot can process things such as: milk jugs, soda bottles, various other types of plastics, and bad prints, to make new filament for a future print. Filabot will bring the real power of sustainability to 3D printing, allowing for a one stop shop to make anything
Ah you beet me to it! Lol this is what we need!!!!!! Jeff, or some one, if we all chip in and get one, we can just ship plastic to that person and then ship back spools! ;) just an idea. ~Russ
Good idea Russ, but the problem is shredding the plastic down so the extruder can handle it. I have a design in mind and have most of the parts for it to build one, I will have to make some wood patterns and then cast them out of aluminum. The way I have it figured the machine will cut the plastic so fine it will be like saw dust , be able to cut up and reclaim plastic from TV cases and the like. I have seen the filabot  and it's very slow, seems like I remember reading it takes about 8 hours to make one spool of plastic, maybe less but it took a long time, I have most of the parts to build one of these as well and think it will work much faster.

Found another filament extruder available for purchase, $150.  I'm a little leery about buying a product pictured as a notebook sketch though.:s

Nate
There is one on thingiverse that you can print , that you can use to print cookies, I'm modifying it to print wax, for lost wax investment casting. Haven't had anytime to work on it though.

I need to start working on my ideal of building a plastic shredder machine. With it you could shred large pieces of ABS plastic in minutes.:D
How about a 100 ton hydraulic press, then you could just crush it.  :)

Only a mere 15 thousand dollars...   hehe  :D

Here is another filament extruder build:

Very Nice.  Thanks Nate.

Hey, you 3D Printer experts, question for you...

Is it possible to use PVC?  I have a bunch of old PVC pipes laying around from various projects that I'm pretty certain I would never use.  This seems like a really solid material to build stuff with; I've just never heard of anyone using it for 3D Printer applications.

Hi Matt, please watch a video I have posted on YT, this should answer your question about PVC.

Lost the little icon to actually post a video here on the forum, smiley faces have stopped as well, can not select them. Did somethings change?

It all works now. :cool::D:P

That's the whole ball of wax there Nate, very sweet indeed.:D:P
I think it's time, for me to have more time.  Lots of stuff to build!

Problem is jumping with out a net.......
Nate is there a link to download stl's and build schematics for this build? Went to thingiverse did not find it, thanks.:D:P

Thingiverse website is kinda lame, they changed it so you have to click on the "download this thing" button.  Then there is the option to download each file separate or download all as a zip file.
I'll attach the zip file here :)
