Obamas 3d printing monopoly
The White House announced a $30 million investment into 3D printing technology:

http://www.3ders.org/articles/20120816-w...nting.html

I think this is bad news for Open Source 3d printing, which is taking off like a rocket ship with hardly any funding. With one of the main investors being the defense dept., you can imagine all the new fancy rules and regulations that will come with that. Like, who gets to print what.. file regulation like they use on music files... oh and did you renew your 3d printer operator license? I could be just paranoid, but I think if it smells bad, it's also going to taste bad. Why does it take the president of the united states to make advances in 3D printing? Could it be that "the people" are making themselves too powerful on their own with their self replicating machines made with some hardware store parts? Not enough dollar signs changing hands is just one of my guesses... and isn't one of my top 3.

What do ya think is it good or bad?

Well Nate, you hit the nail right on the head and with one hit all the way into the wood. From what I have learned in the last month, would make everyone's blood boil, this is just the very tip of the iceberg.

I just watched half of the movie in the link. One of the main reasons I will not watch TV news anymore. Censorship and staged news is all your going to get. The tip of the iceberg is putting it mildly, I think we may have only seen the first few frozen water molecules of the iceberg. The rabbit hole goes very deep, the farther you go the more you realize wars, politics, and economy are a huge game being played by a handfull of abominations laughing histerically at us. The more people that die from any country in the world the more they laugh. They don't need to kill us with their own hands, they get us to kill each other through hate.

Matthew 5:44,45
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

These people feed on everyone's fear and hate. Don't give them what they want to eat. Give them what they need to eat.

I could not agree with you more Nate. It's all through history, mankind has suffered at the hands of other's from Adam and Eve's time, till now, and soon to end. Daniel 2:44 The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will crush and put an end to all other kingdoms

RE: Obamas 3d printing monopoly
Maybe it's time to voice these concerns to your politicians, your peers who aren't informed and start to educate those willing to listen. If you don't do it, who will?

I'm finding the world slightly more open to listening lately.

If it's the world we want to change, we need to start with ourselves and doing what we can to educate those around us. I find most people are reasonable and compassionate with the interest of themselves at heart, with everyone else a close second. If it's not good for you, and it's not good for them usually you can coax a few minutes to educate them and what it means to them and the ones they love.

Any idea's? What about bringing this to the attention of one of those new youtube based new age style groups, like thrive or something? A few thousand people knowing what's up, is better than a few hundred?

M

(I am by no means saying I have answers, but I'm finding I feel a lot better if I just let thoughts like these out lately, I was getting pretty depressed with the state of the world and this is changing my attitude)

Well Matt , I tend to agree with you. I belong to Tinman's forum also. At first postings, I was told not to show this kind of information, but as people their realized what was happening around the world right in front of their eye's they started to wake up, as if they were in a deep sleep. Now it has opened the eye's of many, like I have stated already, anyone who starts learning about free energy will eventually see the truth of the way things really are in this world we live in, the greed, suffering and mans inhumanity to his fellow man. This is not meant to depress anyone, people have let things turn out this way, so many distractions to blind or mislead people from the truth. So, the change must be in people, be of good cheer, and realize things are about to change "DRASTICALLY" . PS. 37:11 The meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace, verse 10, the wicked will be no more.CoolBig GrinTongue

good stuff guys. we all do our part... times will change.

1/2 of us do our part... things will be deterrent.

1% to 99%

if the 99% dont do what the 1% tells us to do who is going to enforce it? lol

WE ARE THE CHANGE

"I had to go to a source of power greater than Stan Meyer in order to try and bring in this form of technology. And the Lord said that this knowledge of pertaining to water when he was talking to Job and he asked Job the question. He said, "Job have you ever considered the treasures of snow or have you ever considered the treasures of Hell which I have reserved against the time or trouble against battle and war". And the reason I am here today is that the multi international corporate structures can't bring in this type of technology, the Federal governments cannot bring in this technology, it has to come through an individual such as myself and it has to move through you and I. So as I impart this technology onto you, then you have a responsibility to it. This technology must get in through the people or otherwise it will not go forward." - Stan Meyer

"We can demonstrate the technology. We can say it’s here but in actuality it will not be Stan Meyers to bring it in. It will be either you or I, the guy down the street, who will come together to bring it in. Otherwise, I do not believe an alternate energy source, whether water fuel cell or other, would ever come in. It’s going to have to be mandated by the people to try to reverse the environmental problems, the environmental damage, that’s actually occurring. - Stan Meyer, 1997"

RE: Obamas 3d printing monopoly
Indeed, there has been a lot happening behind the political curtain the last fifty years. They are afraid of open source projects because they have no control and can be more difficult to stop.
I recently read the message from MT Keshe on his forum. He describes the actual facts of how governments play dirty tricks and other countries describe as an enemy to be able to invade and plunder their wealth. I guess not many people know how their governments keep people ignorant. Open source allows to take projects in our own hands, and this is precisely what they do not want. I fear that this topic go too far different from the title, but this is something I've wanted to share.

I thank people like Russ and many others on this forum who dare to take initiative even though it is against the principle of government. I think that his forum has grown much further than Russ ever dreamed.
Each inventor who took steps to bring out his invention was immediately stopped or killed. Open source brings people from their deep sleep and opens their eyes.
Read carefully and take your time because it is a long article.

RE: Obamas 3d printing monopoly
I don't think the topic is too far off. The RepRap 3D printers were open sourced to create wealth for common people. Wealth has a lot more meanings than "money" to most common people. Sure you can print of pieces and sell them for profit, but printing parts can save you from having to spend large amounts "money" too. This gives people self reliance and independence.

Say someone breaks the knob off of their kitchen stove. Some people might feel the need to buy a whole new stove, some might go to a store and buy a new knob, some might call a repair man. Now a new option of downloading someone else's open sourced 3D stove knob design and printing it is possible. All sounds simple to us right?

Simple until we think about the tax man's pocket. Tax on the fuel to get to the store, tax on the stove or knob, tax on a repair mans labor. Tax on the fuel to ship the products to the store. How many times is something taxed before you buy it? Simple until we think about the corporation that built the stove. The 6 figure salary they paid the man that designed that stove knob that broke so easily. The lost sale of a stove to replace a perfectly fine stove with a missing knob.

A printed knob would probably cost less than 2 dollars in ABS filament.

So is tax man mad about this printed knob? How about corporate man?

No.

They fear the printed stove knob. They know the magnitude of what a simple printed knob means. A stove knob today, what tomorrow? What won't we do tomorrow?! So what do powerful people do to fix their fears?

This new obama plan promises more jobs for america. That is nice of him, so he wants to employ printer operators. I cant see that opening many jobs. I think one person could keep an entire shop of printers producing on his/her own. So this one person slaves maintaining 4 shops worth of printers, so corporation can sell the parts for "money". Complete opposite of the RepRap theory.

No doubt the obama plan also wants to create new printer ideas and better technology. Like printing with multiple materials in one print. With that comes the possibility of printing fully assembled mechanical and electrical moving parts. Machines that could start and run as soon as they are done printing. Real time upgrades to the next machine off the line. Adaptations to the machines as the need arises. Self replicating, evolving, government machines. What kind of machines does the government like to build anyway? hmm. Probably not worried about stove knobs.

They are worried about the same thing we are worried about, our independence.

Ideas are bullet proof.

You ever priced a stove knob, they are very expensive, some are $40 to $50.00, it's no wonder things cost so much, because of this, your very scenario.Huh
