I've designed some using a bar magnetic attached with a shaft at it's middle point, so it is balanced on the shaft. Wind flow two coils around cylindrical steel cores. Build a frame to support the shaft with bar magnetic & the two coils.

Magnetic particle inspection is Normaly performed on castings,pumps, forged parts, control arms, breaks, generator parts, welds, impellers, lifting hardware, forks, latches, pins, bearings, billboards, ships, automobiles, structural steel, tubes,and any other ferromagnetic material.

Interesting Maxxy... In welding inspection its called magna flux isn't it?
